MAS2 is conducted by a team of respected researchers with expertise and experience in conducting large epidemiological and cohort studies and analysing big data, as well as specialty expertise in health economics, health policy, physical health and frailty, psychological health, social health, cognitive ageing, prevention of dementia, cardiovascular health, diabetes and -omics, genetics, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, and online cognitive testing.

Professor Brodaty is Scientia Professor of Ageing and Mental Health, UNSW; Consultant, Older People’s Mental Health Service, Prince of Wales Hospital. He is the co-director of the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) at UNSW. He is dedicated to finding ways to prevent cognitive decline and dementia.

Professor Perminder Sachdev is Scientia Professor of Neuropsychiatry & Co-Director, Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), School of Psychiatry, UNSW, and Clinical Director, Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI), POWH, Sydney, Australia. His most recent work has been in dementia and pre-dementia syndromes, in particular relating to neuroimaging, neuropsychology, biomarkers and risk factors.

Professor Colin Masters is the laboratory head of Neuropathology and Neurodegeneration Laboratory at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. His work over the last 35 years is widely acknowledged as having had a major influence on Alzheimer’s disease research worldwide, particularly the collaborative studies conducted with Konrad Beyreuther in which they discovered the proteolytic neuronal origin of the Aβ amyloid protein which causes Alzheimer’s disease.

PROFESSOR MARIA A. FIATARONE SINGH

Professor Maria A. Fiatarone Singh is a geriatrician whose research, clinical, and teaching career has focused on the integration of medicine, exercise physiology, and nutrition as a means to improve health status and quality of life across the lifespan. She has held the inaugural John Sutton Chair of Exercise and Sport Science in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Professorship, Sydney Medical School, at the University of Sydney since 1999.

Professor Annette Dobson is a Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the Centre for Longitudinal and Life Course Research in the School of Public Health at the University of Queensland (UQ). She has contributed to health and medical science through the design and conduct of large-scale, long-running epidemiological studies that have improved understanding of population health issues, methodology of measurement and statistical analysis, and the education of future generations of expert biostatisticians.

Professor Aletta E Schutte is the Principal Theme Lead of Cardiac, Vascular and Metabolic Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health of UNSW, with a joint appointment as Professorial Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health. She trained in cardiovascular epidemiology, physiology, and public health and has over 20 years of research experience and over 10 years of leadership experience in complex, collaborative and strategic projects undertaken globally.

Professor Henry Cutler is the inaugural director of the Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) since 2015. He is an applied health economist and has also gained research experience across a broad health care base. This includes cancer, visual impairment, dementia, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, road trauma, sleep disorders, mental health, hearing, pathology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aged care, integrated care, digital health and hospitals.

Professor Carol Brayne is a Professor of Public Health Medicine and Co-Chair of the Cambridge Public Health Interdisciplinary Centre at the University of Cambridge. She is a medically qualified epidemiologist and public health academic. Her main research has been longitudinal studies of older people following changes over time with a public health perspective and focuses on the brain. She is the lead investigator for the Cognitive Function and Ageing Studies (CFAS), longitudinal studies of populations aged 65 and over in multiple sites in the UK.

DR NICOLE KOCHAN

Dr Nicole Kochan is a registered Clinical Neuropsychologist and Senior Research Fellow at The Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), School of Psychiatry, UNSW. She has 17 years’ clinical experience in the assessment of age-related neurocognitive disorders in the Memory Disorders Clinic and Neuropsychiatric Institute, Prince of Wales Hospital, a position concurrently with her research role until 2018.

Dr Katya Numbers is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), School of Psychiatry, UNSW. She is also the former Coordinator of CHeBA's original Sydney Memory and Ageing Study (MAS1). Katya's own research focuses on modifiable lifestyle factors associated with increased dementia risk, the subjective experience of cognitive decline and functional ability, and strategies for combatting negative stereotypes of ageing in younger and older adults.
